The story of Glass Beach begins in the early 1900s when this area served as a garbage dump for local residents. For decades, everything from cars to household trash was discarded over the cliffs into the ocean. In the 1960s, cleanup efforts removed the large debris, but something magical had happened below: decades of waves, wind, and time had tumbled and polished the discarded glass into smooth, frosted treasures.

Today, the beach displays a rainbow of sea glass in every color imaginable—from emerald greens and cobalt blues to rare reds and oranges. While collecting glass is prohibited in the state park areas, visitors can capture stunning photographs of this glittering shoreline.
